Career Readiness
Internship
I did an internship under Dr. Tony Butterfield from the University of Utah Chemical Engineering Department over the Summer of 2013. I helped him accomplish various tasks such as testing sensors, inoculating algae, and preparing for engineering summer camps. He taught me about various processes including how to use an FTIR.
Career Exploration
Using Utahfutures.org I took various assessments. These were my findings:
My skill choices matched perfectly with what I might like to be which is a Natural Science Manager. My skill choices based on the Holland Code were mostly Enterprising, Social, and Investigative. As much as I love to solve problems using mathematic and science, helping people and working with them is more important to me. I generally also like to be in charge, especially when I am adequately prepared to do so. So my three areas were ranked perfectly. First: Enterprising. Second: Social. Third: Investigative. I would very much enjoy a job with these three as the basis. A natural science manager is one job that fits that description as far as I understand.
